Josiah Thugwane wines gold Atlanta Olympics 1996SOUTH AFRICAN LEGENDS SUPPORT “SOUTH AFRICA CAN RUN” CAMPAIGN

SOUTH AFRICA, SEPTEMBER 2013, Josiah Thugwane, one of South Africa’s greatest running legends, supports another great, Elana Meyer, SA CAN RUN and ENDUROCAD.

As part of ENDUROCAD’s giving back philosophy, and with the support of several South African, are helping to inspire the next generation of South African endurance athletes to get ready for RIO.

JOSIAH THUGWANE joins Elana Meyer as an ENDUROCAD Legend.

Living Life to the Fullest – Elana Meyer is one of South Africa’s iconic sporting greats – an Olympic medallist, a multiple world record-holder and a world champion – and yet there is still so much more to Elana than her highly consistent, elite athletic career.  She has been devoted to achieving youth development through sport; she’s a delighted mother; an intrepid outdoor adventurer, an outstanding coach, a highly sought after motivational speaker and one of the founding Directors of ENDUROCAD Africa’s first Academy dedicated to endurance sports.

JOSIAH THUGWANE is another South African sporting legend, who in 1996, at the Atlanta Olympics, became the first black South African athlete to win gold. With Apartheid’s hold on South Africa ending, not since Jesse Owens won four gold medals in the Nazi Germany of 1936 had an Olympic victory carried such importance. Josiah’s victory is a story of triumph over overwhelming odds in the journey of life. One of the first things that Josiah did was to learn to read and write. It was important for him to express himself in the media, so he also learned to speak English, something he had to master. He said after winning gold, “I won the medal for all the people of South Africa and especially for my president, Nelson Mandela, who made it possible for us to be part of the international community.” Josiah Thugwane – 1996

JOSHIAH has been appointed as a South African Sporting Legend to the Endurocad program.

ENDUROCAD’s has been established with the purpose of identifying, nurturing, training and celebrating the success of young talented athletes who have a natural talent and capacity for achievement and who wish to focus this in an inspirational manner.  ENDUROCD is activating South Africans through the SA CAN RUN community in order to both attract and recognize running talent.

ENDUROCAD is a non-profit company (NPC) which provides the opportunity for South African endurance athletes to improve their times, make a living from their talent and to build a brand and business for life after sport.
