Simonay Weitsz claims her maiden national senior title

The SA Senior Track and field Championships took place in Potchefstroom this past weekend , it was one of the most anticipated SA Championships.

A total of 18 satellite athletes competed at the championships, whereby 4 athletes obtained podium positions.

Junior athlete Simonay Weitsz delivered an impressive performance to win her first SA Senior title in the 1500m. Her time of 4:21 is only 2 seconds slower her than her personal best. In the senior men’s 1000om event, Kabelo Malume delivered finishing in 2nd position behind the experienced Elroy Gelant. This is Kabelo’s first year as a senior athlete, his time was 30:08.

Cornelia Joubert, had a fantastic race in the woman’s 10000m event. She ran a 35:15 to finish 2nd behind Glenrose Xaba. Nolene Conrad battled it out in a competitive 5000m event, she finished in third in a time 16:32.
